What is a horizontal crack?

Horizontal cracks often indicate a more serious problem.

They are caused by hydrostatic (water) pressure from the outside of the exterior walls and can lead to a failing foundation.

What causes horizontal cracks?

The most common cause of horizontal cracks in concrete block foundation walls is excessively unbalanced soil pressure. This type of movement will lead to horizontal cracks that may occur near the center of the wall or close to the top of the wall.
